Disclosed herein is a composition comprising: at least one oxidant selected from hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide, and benzoyl peroxide; at least one photoactivator that is a fluorescent dye; at least one healing factor selected from hyaluronic acid, glucosamine and allantoin; in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier; wherein the fluorescent dye is not Eosin. Said composition may further comprise a hydrophilic gelling agent selected from glucose, modified starch, methyl cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose, propyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, carbopol polymers, alginic acid, sodium alginate, potassium alginate, ammonium alginate, calcium alginate, agar, carrageenan, locust bean gum, pectin, and gelatin. Also disclosed is a method for wound healing which comprises the steps of: (a) topically applying on a non-human animal’s wound a composition comprising at least one oxidant, wherein the at least one oxidant is chosen from hydrogen peroxide, carbamide peroxide and benzoyl peroxide; at least one photoactivator that is a fluorescent dye, wherein the fluorescent dye is not Eosin; at least one healing factor selected from hyaluronic acid, glucosamine and allantoin; and (b) exposing said skin of step (a) to actinic light for a time sufficient for said photoactivator to cause activation of said oxidant.
