The present invention relates to the use of iontophoresis to deliver ophthalmic compositions (in particular. collyriums) preferably containing riboflavin, or other cross-linking agents, designed to imbibe the corneal stroma in the practice of the corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) for the keratoconus treatment, and also relates to the corresponding ophthalmic compositions adapted to be administrated by iontophoresis in the treatment of keratoconus by corneal collagen cross-linking. According to the invention it is provided an ophthalmic composition for the treatment of keratoconus by corneal iontophoresis characterized by the fact to comprise cross-linking agents having buffering properties and whose initial pH value is comprised between 5 and 6, and/or bio-enhancers, and/or photo- enhancers.La presente invención se refiere al uso de la iontoforesis para suministrar composiciones oftálmicas (en particular, colirios) que contienen de preferencia riboflavina u otros agentes de reticulación, diseñados para impregnar el estroma corneano en la práctica de la reticulación del colágeno de la córnea (CXL) para el tratamiento de queratocono y se refiere también a las correspondientes composiciones oftálmicas, adaptadas para ser administradas mediante iontoforesis en el tratamiento del queratocono, por medio de reticulación del colágeno de la córnea. De acuerdo con la invención, se provee una composición oftálmica para el tratamiento del queratocono mediante iontoforesis corneana, caracterizada por el hecho de que comprende agentes de reticulación que tienen propiedades reguladores, y cuyo valor de pH inicial está comprendido entre 5 y 6, y/o biomejoradores y/o fotoincrementadores.
