A composition contains at least one probiotic or enzyme selected from thegroup consisting of (i) a probiotic having .beta.-glycosidaseactivity or a .beta.-glycosidase, (ii) a probiotic having esterase activity oran esterase, (iii) a probiotic having both .beta.-glycosidaseactivity and esterase activity or an enzyme having both .beta.-glycosidaseactivity and esterase activity, (iv) a first probiotic having .beta-glycosidaseactivity and a second probiotic having esterase activity, (v) a probiotichaving .beta.-glycosidase activity and an esterase, (vi)a .beta.-glycosidase and a probiotic having esterase activity and (vii) a.beta.-glycosidase and an esterase. The at least one probiotic can formone or more of oleuropein aglycone, elenolic acid, hydroxytyrosol acetate orhydroxytyrosol from oleuropein. The composition cancomprise oleuropein. The composition can be for treating or preventingimpaired mobility in an older adult； stimulating bone formationand/or inhibiting bone resorption； treating or preventing synovitis in anindividual in need or at risk thereof or treating or preventingarticular cartilage degradation subsequent to synovitis in an individualhaving or recovering from synovitis； or preventing or treatingcartilage breakdown.
