The container (1) has an internal compartment to receive biological material, and gas cartridges (3-6) containing oxygen gas or gas mixture. A monitoring unit (7) determines partial pressure (PP) or concentration of the gas within the compartment. The monitoring unit co-operates with a valve to allow introduction of gas into the compartment when the partial pressure is less than or equal to a given threshold value or when the concentration of the gas within the compartment is less than or equal to a threshold value of given concentration.L'invention porte sur un conteneur (1) de transport de matériel biologique comprenant un compartiment interne pour recevoir du matériel biologique, au moins une source de gaz (3-6) reliée fluidiquement audit compartiement interne pour alimenter ledit compartiment interne en gaz, et un dispositif de contrôle de passage de gaz, agencé sur le trajet du gaz entre la source de gaz et le compartiment interne, pour contrôler une introduction de gaz dans le compartiment interne. Selon l'invention, des moyens de surveillance (7) de pression partielle ou de concentration en gaz permettent de déterminer la pression partielle (PP) ou la concentration en gaz au sein dudit compartiment, et coopèrent avec le dispositif de contrôle de passage de gaz de manière à permettre une introduction de gaz dans le compartiment, lorsque la pression partielle (PP) en un gaz considéré régnant dans ledit compartiment interne est inférieure ou égale à une valeur-seuil donnée (PPs) ou lorsque la concentration (C) en ledit gaz au sein dudit compartiment interne est inférieure ou égale à une valeur-seuil de concentration donnée (Cs).
