A system for preserving blood and its components, comprising: a device having: a housing forming a chamber； a cover that is hermetically sealed relative to the housing； an inlet that is configured to provide compressed xenon gas in said chamber from a xenon gas source； a pressure indicator that is configured to indicate pressure in said chamber, wherein said pressure indicator comprises a conduit containing liquid, a portion of said conduit is transparent so that at least a portion of said fluid is visible in said conduit to indicate whether said chamber is under pressure or not； and a bag containing blood or blood components, said packet being permeable to xenon gas, said packet being placed in and hermetically sealed in said chamber, said chamber including compressed xenon gas so that said blood or its components in said packet are saturated with said xenon gas. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein said chamber has a cylindrical shape. 3. The system of claim 1, wherein said xenon gas has a xenon content of at least 65%.
