Die Erfindung betrifft Pflanzen mit erhöhter Resistenz gegen Pflanzenpathogene, wobei in diesen Pflanzen die intrazelluläre Konzentration von Inositolpyrophosphaten lnsP7 und / oder InsP8 im Vergleich zur Wildtyppflanze erhöht ist. Insbesondere handelt es sich dabei um Pflanzen mit erhöhter Expression wenigstens eines Proteins, welches an der Synthese von Inositolpyrophosphaten lnsP7 und / oder InsP8, beteiligt ist, wie beispielsweise die Proteine VIH2 und VIH1. Die erfindungsgemäßen Pflanzen sind besonders gegen folgende Pflanzenpathogene resistent: herbivore Insekten, z.B. Larven von landwirtschaftlich relevanten Schädlingen, pathogene Pilze, wie nekrotrophe Pilze, oder andere Pflanzenschädlinge, wie biotrophe Pathogene.
