[Problem] To provide an absorbent article that has a simple structure while being capable of preventing leakage in the front and back. [Solution] This absorbent article includes a liquid permeable top sheet (1), an absorber (3), and standing gathers (R) that extend in a front-back direction on both sides in a width direction of a liquid impermeable sheet (2). The standing gathers (R) has, as components thereof, a gather sheet (6) that has a base portion (6x) and an extension portion (6y), and a gather elastic member (6g) that is fixed in a stretched state in the front-back direction. The extension portion (6y) has collapsible portions (6b, 6f) that are fixed to the liquid permeable top sheet and a free portion (6c) located therebetween. The ends of the liquid permeable top sheet (1) in the front-back direction are pulled toward the center in the front-back direction due to contraction of the gather elastic member (6g), and fold back portions (1a) from boundary lines (L1, L3) between the collapsible portions (6b, 6f) and the free portion (6c) to stand lines (L2, L4) toward the center in the front-back direction are folded back to form front surface pockets (Pf, Pb).
