Methods are provided for obtaining epithelial organoids. In one aspect, the method is a step of culturing one or more epithelial ducts, epithelial duct fragments, and/or epithelial stem cells isolated therefrom in contact with extracellular matrix in the presence of basal medium. Thus, the method includes a step in which the medium does not contain FGF and/or nicotinamide.
