Provided herein is a composition comprising a poly(alpha-hydroxycarboxylicacid) substantially free of acidic impuritieswherein the poly(alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid) is selected from poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid), poly(L-lactic acid),poly(D-lactic acid) and poly(D,L-lactic acid). Also provided is a devicecomprising: a substrate, and a coating wherein the coatingcomprises poly(D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) substantially free of acidicimpurities.
