the present invention relates to new strains of lactic acid bacteria, more specifically, new strains of lactobacillus reuteri, capable of using ethanolamine. this characteristic allows the bacteria to compete for the same substrate as pathogenic pathogens that use ethanolamine, thus presenting an effective means to fight infections resulting from such pathogenic bacteria. there is also provided a method for selecting acid-lactic bacteria that use additional ethanolamine, as well as other methods and uses involving said new strains and other acid-lactic bacteria that use ethanolamine.a presente invenção refere-se a novas cepas de bactérias ácido-lácticas, mais especificamente, novas cepas de lactobacillus reuteri, capazes de utilizar etanolamina. essa característica possibilita que as bactérias compitam pelo mesmo substrato que patógenos patogênicos que utilizam etanolamina, apresentando, assim, um meio eficaz para combater infecções resultantes de tais bactérias patogênicas. é também provido um método para selecionar bactérias ácido-lácticas que utilizam etanolamina adicionais, bem como outros métodos e usos envolvendo as ditas novas cepas e outras bactérias ácido-lácticas que utilizam etanolamina.
