PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minutely control the hardness of a flexible portion in an endoscope insertion section.
SOLUTION: A hardness varying means 13 of this hardness varying device capable of varying the hardness of the flexible portion 2a in the insertion section 2 by an operation is formed by inserting an operation wire 21 into a coil sleeve 20 connected to a slide sleeve 23 which is slidably inserted into a guide pipe 22 fixedly provided in the flexible portion 2, when being operated by a hardness adjusting operation means 14 provided in a body operation section 1 to make the coil sleeve 20 a compressed state from a non-compressed state, the hardness of the hardness varying means 13 is changed to enhance the hardness from the position provided with the hardness varying means 13 toward the proximal side. The insertion section has three sets of the hardness varying means 13 and the hardness adjusting operation means 14, and the attachment positions of the guide pipes 22 are positioned deflected axially from one another in the flexible portion 2a.
