Disclosed is a gastro-intestinal activity mapping system. Included in the system is a catheter insertable through a natural orifice into the gastro-intestinal tract (G). The catheter has an array of electrodes (1) for contacting an interior surface of a section of the gastro-intestinal tract (G) to detect electrical potentials at multiple electrodes (1). A signal analysis and mapping system is arranged to receive and process electrical signals from the electrodes (1) of the array and produce and spatio-temporal map of the electrical activity of the section of the gastro-intestinal tract (G) over a period of time.
