PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying and isolating a new protein and a gene encoding the protein that can largely contribute to the high accumulation of heavy metals and is involved in Cd detoxification mechanism. SOLUTION: The objective gene has (A) a base sequence encoding one of ten specific amino acid sequences derived from Brassica juncea, (B) a base sequence encoding an amino acid sequences that is modified by deleting, adding or substituting one or more amino acids from, to or in any of the above amino acid sequences and gives a Cd resistance activity, (C) any of ten specific base sequences derived from B. juncea, (D) a base sequence that is modified by deleting, adding or substituting one or mole base sequences from, to or in the above base sequence and encodes a protein that gives a Cd resistance activity, or (E) a base sequence that hybridizes to the above base sequence under a stringent condition and encodes a protein that gives a Cd resistance activity.
