PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air oxidation type hair dye using 5, 6-dihydroxyindole having excellent dyeing power, and further excellent gray hair hiding properties, and preservation stability, or a derivative thereof.SOLUTION: The air oxidation type hair dye composition includes following components (A) to (E): (A) 5, 6-dihydroxyindole, 5, 6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid or a salt thereof, (B) an alkanolamine, (C) ascorbic acid or a salt thereof, (D) a sulfite, and (E) water.
