The cutter has a rectangular outer contour and cutting edges (8, 9) extending in front area of longitudinal sides of the cutter. A through hole (22) is arranged in a rear end area of the cutter for fixed or rotatable connection of the cutter with a chaff-cutting machine. One of the cutting edges includes a plasma coating with a thickness of 0.8 millimeter (mm) or 1.0 mm. The coating is formed with tungsten carbide. The coating extends only over 40 to 60 percent of longitudinal extension of the cutting edges.
