The rotary silo top discharge mechanism has a number of driven cutters (5). These can be mounted at intervals along one or more arms (3), and part at least of the raking rotors (6) can also act as cutters. The cutters can be disc-type knives or oblong blades, and they can be adjustable in relation to the direction of movement, and also to the surface of the silage. The cutters can be driven so that their peripheral speed is faster than their forward movement. The mechanism chops the material at the same time as it is discharged, thus making subsequent handling much easier.
