The earth working machine has a number of tools (1) rotating around a horizontally extending shaft (2). Also, for at least a part of the tools a protective cover (10) is provided which extends behind the tools, and beneath which a number of ducts for the thrown-up earth are fitted. These ducts are wedge-shaped and are pointed towards the thrown-up earth flow in such a way that the earth coming up through two adjacent duct units is forced by their sides into a ridge. To assist in the formation of the ridge angled inwards side plates (20) are provided.
