A method for creating a virtual dental model of a dental structure of a patient, the method comprising:generating a virtual model of the dental structure of the patient；identifying a first portion of the virtual model corresponding to a portion of the soft dental surfaces within the implant site, the first portion having a first virtual surface corresponding to a surface of the soft dental surfaces；defining a second virtual surface displaced in an apical direction from the first virtual surface；defining a first lateral virtual surface that extends between at least the first virtual surface and the second virtual surface；modifying the virtual model to create:a first virtual model part having surfaces corresponding to the portion of the soft dental surfaces, anda second virtual model part corresponding to at least a portion of the hard dental surfaces； andoutputting a composite model corresponding to the modified virtual model.
