PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new ceramide production promotor which directly acts for a ceramide production passage in an organism, so that the promotor fundamentally improves a moisturing mechanism of skin unlike a conventional coping treatment, also has an effective component found in nature, so that the promotor is highly safe and continuously used for a long time, and therefore suitably is used for a pharmaceutical formulation usable for an external preparation for skin, etc., and a cosmetic composition usable for a cosmetic product.
SOLUTION: The ceramide production promotor has a Cnidium officinale extract as the effective component, wherein the Cnidium officinale extract is obtained by extracting it from a Cnidium officinale rhizome with an aqueous ethanol having ethanol of 80 mass% or below.
