1. A composition for preventing or treating colitis containing S-allyl-L-cysteine, a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or solvate or hydrate thereof as an active ingredient. The composition of claim 1, wherein S-allyl-L-cysteine is obtained by isolation and purification from plants of the genus Allium, by synthesis or by fermentation. The composition of claim 1, further comprising an anti-inflammatory agent or antioxidant agent. The composition of claim 3, wherein the anti-inflammatory agent is selected from the group consisting of ibuprofen, ketoprofen, flurbiprofen, phenoprofen, naproxen, piroxicam, tenoxicam, isoxicam, meloxicam, indomethacin, aceclofenac, diclofenac, and a combination thereof, and an antioxidant from vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E, carotenoid, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, lutein, zeaxanthin, selenium, glutathione (GSH), lycopene, and a combination thereof. 5. A pharmaceutical composition comprising a composition according to any one of paragraphs. 1-4, where the dosage composition is selected from the group consisting of a dosage form for oral administration, for application to the mucosa, for injection, for inhalation and for external use.1.
