The present invention relates to an antioxidant or anti-inflammatory cosmetic composition, food composition, and pharmaceutical composition, comprising a Selaginella tamariscina extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom as an effective component. The antioxidant or anti-inflammatory compositions of the present invention, which comprise a Selaginella tamariscina extract, a fraction thereof, or a compound isolated therefrom as an effective component show excellent activity of scavenging DPPH free radicals, that is, excellent antioxidant activity, in a concentration-dependent manner； show excellent activity of inhibiting the formation of nitric oxide (NO) inside cells； and show excellent activity of inhibiting the formation of inflammatory cytokines, and thus may be beneficially used in cosmetics, foods, and drugs for preventing, alleviating or treating diseases caused by oxidation and inflammation.본 발명은 부처손(Selaginellatamariscina) 추출물, 이의 분획물 또는 이로부터 단리된 화합물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 항산화 또는 항염증용 화장료 조성물, 식품 조성물 및 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다.본 발명의 부처손(Selaginellatamariscina) 추출물, 이의 분획물 또는 이로부터 단리된 화합물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 항산화 또는 항염증용 조성물은 농도의존적으로 DPPH 자유 라디칼(free radical)을 소거하는 활성이 우수, 즉 항산화 효과가 우수하고, 세포 내에서 일산화질소(nitric oxide, NO)의 생성을 저해하는 활성이 뛰어날 뿐만 아니라 염증성 사이토카인의 생성 저해 활성이 우수한 특징을 지니므로, 산화 작용 및 염증 작용에 의해 유발되는 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료를 위한 화장품, 식품 및 의약품 등에 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
