Disclosed is a nanoemulsion comprising a) at least one aqueous component and b) a carrier, which comprises i) at least one lipophilic component being present in an amount of from 0.1 percent by weight to 15 percent by weight, ii) at least one surfactant and iii) at least one alcohol, wherein the at least one alcohol has at least three carbon atoms, and wherein the mean diameter of the emulsified particles is less than 100 nm. Also disclosed is a process for preparing the nanoemulsion, a pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition, a process for preparing the composition, the use of the nanoemulsion in the manufacture of a medicament for use in photodynamic therapy, a kit comprising the nanoemulsion and a cosmetic method for treating or preventing aging.
