Microporous zirconium silicate for the treatment of hyperkalemia in hypercalcemic patients and an improved calcium-containing composition for the treatment of hyperkalemia
The present invention relates to a novel calcium-containing microporous zirconium silicate composition formulated to remove toxins, such as potassium ions, from the gastrointestinal tract at a high rate without removing calcium from the patient's body. Also disclosed is a method of using a calcium-free or low calcium microporous zirconium silicate composition for the treatment of hyperkalemia in patients who also suffer from hypercalcemia.
