PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure steam sterilizer for sterilizing a medical instrument or the like using steam, capable of preventing the deflection and deformation of a lid in the case of abnormal rise of an internal pressure.
SOLUTION: Interval adjusting parts 5 are provided respectively between an opening/closing member 2 and a plurality of outer periphery vicinity parts 3a of a lid 3, and the interval adjusting part 5 is supported on either one of the opening/closing member or the lid so as to be freely adjusted and moved to vary an interval from the other. Thus, the opening/closing member is abutted to the plurality of outer periphery vicinity parts of the lid without any space between them through the interval adjusting part, the plurality of outer periphery vicinity parts of the lid are supported so as not to be position-shifted with respect to the opening/closing member, and the lid is uniformly brought into close contact with the opening edge 1b of a chamber 1 through packing 4.
