PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obturator assembly for use in a surgical trocar assembly.SOLUTION: This obturator assembly includes: an obturator housing a support tube extending distally from the obturator housing a shield nose which is affixed to a distal end of the support tube, defines a truncated cavity and has a concave center an obturator which is movably mounted to the support tube and a cutting blade which has at least one cutting edge, is affixed to a distal end of the obturator, and is movable within the truncated cavity.
