PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasound diagnostic apparatus for accurately measuring an abdominal circumferential length of a subject, and also to provide an operation method therefor.SOLUTION: The ultrasound diagnostic apparatus comprises: a probe part 101 for transmitting and receiving ultrasound； an image processing unit 108 for generating a tomographic image of tissue within a subject based on signals received from the probe part； an abdominal circumferential length measuring unit 109 for generating a plurality of ellipses corresponding to the abdomen of the subject from the tomographic image to measure the abdominal circumferential length； and an output unit 110 for displaying the result of measurement by the abdominal circumferential length measuring unit 109.
