PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus that supports and positions a patient in a medical device.SOLUTION: An apparatus includes patient support means and a positioning mechanism for supporting the patient support means. The positioning mechanism has a motor drive turning joint member 24 for positioning the patient support means by the motor drive turning around a turning shaft 26. A rotational opening unit 36 is associated with the motor drive turning joint member. The rotational opening unit becomes substantially coaxial with the turning shaft, and includes an override bearing 60 coming close to the motor drive turning joint member or disposed in the inside so as to freely turn the positioning mechanism around the turning shaft. A rotation lock mechanism 64 collaborates with the override bearing.
