Provided are biocidal formulations for plants comprising one or more anthraquinone derivatives and a lignin. Preferably the anthraquinone derivatives are extracted from Reynoutria sachalinensis and a preferred lignin is lignin sulphonate. Further provided are methods for the preparation of the formulations and the use of the formulations in the protection of plants from disease.
