An apparatus for the treatment of canine or other animal hip pathologies, the apparatus 100 comprising a buffer or cushion 110 adapted to be disposed between a femur 10 and a hip socket 25, and a bone screw 120 adapted to fix the buffer to the femur. The buffer 110 may have a flat bottom and curved top and is adapted to be fitted to a femoral head that has been exercised. The apparatus is typically used in canines or other animals which suffer from hip dysplasia. It is used instead of a total hip replacement which can be costly. The apparatus is used when a femoral head and neck excision procedure has been undertaken. The buffer or cushion 110 helps eliminate painful bone to bone abrasion.
