PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guide wire that is facilitated in shaping at a tip of the guide wire and excellent in torque transmission property till the tip thereof, and to provide a method for manufacturing the guide wire.SOLUTION: The guide wire has an elongated shape and includes a core wire 2 having the small-diameter tip. In this guide wire, the tip includes: one rod-like part 31 provided along a longitudinal direction of the core wire 2 and two pieces of plate-like part 32 protruding from a periphery of the rod-like part 31 and has a plate shape with a thickness smaller than the thickness of the rod-like part 31.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
