<；P>；PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality guide wire for medical treatment. <；P>；SOLUTION: A guide wire 2 comprises a cover 8 and a core 10. The cover 8 covers the core 10. The core 10 has a major part 16 and a tapered part 18. The major wire part 16 is substantially invariable in diameter. The tapered part 18 keeps the diameter contracted toward the wire end 4. In the manufacture of this guide wire 2, the wire material is drawn. The wire material undergoes the low-temperature annealing process. Then it undergoes the final drawing work. Then straightening work is done on the wire material to form the core 10. The undulation height of the core 10 measured along its length shall be 7 &mu；m or less. Then an aging treatment is given to this core 10. In addition, a tapering work is done near the end of the core 10 with an eccentric grinder.
