Lid is movable between an open and closed position to, respectively, secure and prevent access to the interior of the humidification chamber. Disconnect device is adapted, in response to opening the lid or overfilling the humidifying chamber by the user, disconnecting the gas inlet of the humidifying chamber from the outlet of the pressure generator and stopping fluid communication between them to prevent fluid from entering from the humidifying chamber into the pressure generator through the gas inlet of the humidifying chamber and the outlet of the pressure generator.
