PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight planter using styrene foam in the inner layer and having a surface similar to the surface of a stone, unglazed pottery or the like, and to provide a method for producing the lightweight planter. SOLUTION: This method for producing the lightweight planter comprises forming the first layer and the second layer on the whole surface of a foam with an expansion rate of≤25 and spraying a layer of minute pebble grains or stone pieces as the third layer. The material of the first layer is a coating material having as the base aqueous emulsion-based resin and sometimes mixed with at least one kind selected from the group consisting of a coloring agent as a base color, minute pebble grains, stone pieces and cement. The material of the paint film of the second layer is clear type acrylic emulsion mixed with a coloring solid to form a desired surface design like e.g. granite, brick, and unglazed pottery. The third layer of minute pebble grains or stone pieces is sprayed through mixing a clear type acrylic emulsion coating material with minute pebble grains and stone pieces so as to make the surface of a paint film rougher.
