Use of ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-36C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid in cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical preparation, is claimed. Independent claims are included for: (1) an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 9-16C-carboxylic acid； (2) the preparation of ester comprising reacting a mixture containing 2-ethyl butanol and at least an optionally saturated 9-16C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid； and (3) a cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical composition comprising at least an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-36C-carboxylic acid or 4-36C-dicarboxylic acid, preferably at least an ester of 2-ethyl butanol with optionally saturated 4-18C-carboxylic acid or 4-18C-dicarboxylic acid and at least an emulsifier, surfactant, wax component, polymer and/or other oil bodies.
