1. Antimicrobial composition for rinsing the mouth with a low alcohol content, including: a. An oil phase containing one or more antimicrobial essential oils b. a solvent system comprising at least one polyhydric alcohol and at least one sugar alcohol； c. at least one alkyl sulfate surfactant； d. optionally at least one additional surfactant； e. an aqueous phase containing water, wherein the oral rinse composition is a microemulsion containing micelles less than about 200 nm in size； the composition essentially does not contain compounds that affect bioavailability, and also essentially does not contain C-C.2 monohydric alcohols. An oral rinse composition according to claim 1, wherein the antimicrobial essential oils are selected from the group consisting of menthol, eucalyptol, methyl salicylate, thymol, and mixtures thereof. The oral rinse composition according to claim 2, wherein the antimicrobial essential oils are a mixture of menthol, eucalyptol, methyl salicylate and thymol. The oral rinse composition according to claim 1, wherein the polyhydric alcohol is selected from the group consisting of polyhydric alkanes, esters of polyhydric alkanes, polyalkylene glycols, as well as mixtures thereof. An oral rinse composition according to claim 4, wherein the polyhydric alcohol is a polyhydric alkane. An oral rinse composition according to claim 5, wherein the polyhydric alkane is propylene glycol.
