A cochlear implant device is describedwhich is an electrode shell for insertion into a fixed positionin cochlear tissue. The electrode shell includes an interiorvolume that partially encases an implant electrode sothat its electrode contacts are exposed for delivering electricalstimulation signals to the cochlear tissue. The electrodeshell allows insertion and removal of the implantelectrode with minimal trauma to the cochlear tissue.
