A collection insert for use in a diaper for the testing of the urine of a baby is generallydisclosed. The collection insert is configured to collect and temporarily retainthe urine, allowing the urine to be later tested for the presence of absence ofan analyte. The collection insert is fluidly isolated from the absorbent coreof the diaper, and can be positioned between the bodyside liner and the outer coveror located in a pocket defined by the bodyside liner. The collection insert caninclude an insert cover and a collection core, such as a sponge, cellulosic material,polymeric nonwoven material, and the like. Additionally, the collection insertcan be substantially free of superabsorbent material.
