Disclosed is an optical needle comprising a needle body, a light coupler and an optical fiber. The needle body comprises a cavity to accommodate a portion of the optical fiber. The light coupler provides a coupling interface to couple a light source. An end of the needle body is aligned with the coupling interface, so to align an end of the optical fiber with the coupling interface. The optical needle is characterized in that the long axis of the optical reduces from an end aligned with the coupling interface to an end adjacent to the needle body. The coupling interface may be provided in a slot to accommodate the light source. The optical needle may associate a light source.
