PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a subject information acquisition apparatus capable of performing irradiation control on measurement light after detecting that a subject and a subject insertion hole are in intimate contact.SOLUTION: A subject information acquisition apparatus irradiates a subject inserted from an opening of a housing with measurement light, receives an acoustic wave generated within the subject, and acquires information about the inside of the subject on the basis of the acoustic wave.
