A urinary device comprising one or more valves having a means for connecting to an indwelling catheter and a means for connecting with a urine collection device to reduce catheter related urinary tract infections (CAUTI''s) and which are external to the body when in use and located within the valve housing. The valve has an opening pressure higher than the closing pressure and the urinary device has one or more valves capable of moving from the closed position to the open position in response to the applied urinary / intraperitoneal pressure, the valve having a coaption zone.
