The invention relates to an apparatus for drying free-flowing and/or pourable material to be dried by means of warm drying air, comprising a container for the material to be dried, having means for conveying a drying air stream through the container and the material to be dried therein. According to the invention, an input device for at least one acid liquid is arranged within the container. In this dryer, removal of the ammonia loading of the material to be dried is achieved in a simpler manner. The invention further relates to a method that can be carried out by means of the apparatus for drying free-flowing and/or pourable material to be dried by means of warm drying air, comprising a container for the material to be dried and having means for conveying a drying air stream through the container and the material to be dried therein, preferably by using an apparatus as claimed in one of claims 1 to 7. Said method is characterized by the fact that an acid liquid is introduced directly into the container.
