Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for extracting an airway. An image processing apparatus extracts a first candidate region of the airway through a region growing method in a three dimension (3D) human image, extracts a second candidate region based on directionality for the change in a signal intensity of voxels belonging to a lug region from the 3D human image, and extract the airway region by removing noise based on similarity of directionality for the change in the signal intensity of voxels for a third candidate region formed by combining the first and second candidate regions with each other.기도 추출 방법 및 그 장치가 개시된다. 영상처리장치는 3차원 인체 영상에서 영역 성장법을 통해 기도에 관한 제1 후보 영역을 추출하고, 3차원 인체 영상에서 분할한 폐 영역에 속한 복셀들의 신호강도의 변화에 대한 방향성을 기초로 제2 후보 영역을 추출한 후, 제1 후보 영역과 제2 후보 영역을 결합한 제3 후보 영역에 대해 복셀들의 신호강도의 변화에 대한 방향성의 유사도를 기초로 잡음을 제거하여 기도 영역을 추출한다.
