PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vein authentication device for acquiring a satisfactory vein pattern by making a user to correctly place the finger, and for improving authenticating precision in the case of registering or authenticating a finger vein pattern.SOLUTION: The finger vein authentication device includes: a finger information registration part 240 for extracting the information of a vein pattern from a vein image, and for registering it as a matching template in a memory and a finger vein authentication part 250 for extracting the information of the vein pattern from the vein image, and for matching it with the matching template to perform personal authentication. The device includes: a finger image processing part 210 for extracting the characteristics data of the finger from the vein image and a finger placement state decision part 230 for deciding whether the placement state of the finger is satisfactory or not according to whether the characteristics data of the finger is within a predetermined range or not.
