PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorber and an absorbent article, capable of achieving both of a high absorption amount and a high absorption speed and demonstrating a high absorption performance in repetitive absorption of excretory fluid by long-term use.SOLUTION: An absorber 10 has pulp 21 and a water absorptive polymer 22, and the absorber 10 has a groove with a depth of 20% to 100% of the thickness of the absorber 10. The absorber 10 includes a plurality of recesses extending in a crossing direction, where the plurality of recesses are mutually connected. A mass ratio indicated by [mass of the pulp]/[mass of the water absorptive polymer] in the absorber 10 is 1/3 to 1/0.01.
