A surgical tool is disclosed that includes a first connecting element, a contact element, and conductive elements. The contact element is configured to contact the patient's tissue. The conductive elements extend from the connecting element to the contact elements. Each of the conductive elements has an insulating outer layer. The insulating outer layers isolate the conductive elements from each other. The first connecting element is configured to connect to and receive a single phase stimulation pulse from second connecting elements on the modular stimulus module. The modular stimulus module is configured to be connected to the tool and other tools through a second connecting element.
