There is provided a method of reducing microbial load at a site on a skin of a subject. The method includes applying a dressing to a region above a skin of a subject to be subjected to a medical procedure involving destruction of the skin. When used in this method, the dressing comprises a self-adhesive silicone gel sheet comprising at least about 95 weight percent silicon, and up to about 5 weight percent of antimicrobial agent particles dispersed in silicone.
