PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus optimally emphasizing contrast with respect to respective regions of an image.
SOLUTION: A weighting factor of the luminance value pertaining to each superimposed region 55 is determined according to a distance from a first independent region 56 and a distance from a second independent region 57. Similarly, weighting factors are determined on the respective superimposed regions 55 between respective regions of a first region 51, a second region 52, a third region 53 and a fourth region 54. When a contrast emphasis histogram 78 of each region is created, the weighting factor is multiplied to the luminance value found by the contrast emphasis histogram 78. This process is performed from the first region 51 to the fourth region 54. All of the found values are added to calculate the luminance value of the display image.
