PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant extract inhibiting α-glucosidase I, to provide a composition containing it, and to provide an extraction method.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for producing a plant extract from Morus leaves, the extract preferably containing 5-40% (w/w) of total imino sugars and 20-70% (w/w) of total amino acids. The extract is obtained from three extraction steps and a purification process.EFFECT: ICvalue that inhibits α-glucosidase I of the extract is less than 90 μg/ml in concentration, the value being capable of being used for reducing melanin production in the treatment of illnesses or diseases caused by pigmentation, such as freckle, chloasma, striae gravidarum, senile plaque, and melanoma.
