Compositions for topical application to the skin and/or a wound are disclosed. In some embodiments, the compositions include a suspension or dispersion of particles of at least one poorly soluble drug chelated or otherwise complexed with a metal salt. The compositions may further contain at least one stabilizer, at least one excipient, and at least one physiologically acceptable carrier.
