An applicator for a tampon comprising an inner tube and an outer tube, the inner tube being slideable within the outer tube, the applicator having a forward end, wherein the inner surface of the outer tube comprises an annular protrusion near to the rear end of the outer tube and the internal diameter of the outer tube is smaller rearward of the annular protrusion than forward of the annular protrusion.
